Go Green With Healthy, Natural Soap June 15, 2009

Filed under: Healthy Living, Natural Soap, go green — soapynature @ 7:28 am

Soapy Nature is joining forces with other eco-friendly companies on a site called gogreenhttp://www.gogreenetc.com. When you purchase items from this shop you support companies that help protect our planet, as well as contribute to charities that work to support the environment and humanitarian efforts by donating 10% of the profits from Go Green Etc.

We are excited about the Go Green Etc. website and have created a Go Green Getaway that will only be available on gogreenetc.com. It is an olive oil soap with essential lime oil. It will be available later this week. It makes a great gift and helps to promote the message of simple, healthy, eco-friendly living.

You may be asking, “How can buying soap help our planet?” I recently talked with Calley from The Eco Chic http://www.theecochic.com about this issue.

Explain how using your getaways is better for the environment (and for ourselves) than liquid body wash?

Well, just like the difference between commercial “soaps” vs. Soapy Nature Getaways, the body washes aren’t soap. If you read the label, you notice that it is loaded with chemicals, most of which will strip your skin of important oils. There are some companies who realize the benefits of natural butters and oils and they will say, “with shea butter” or “now with cocoa butter”. But, if you take a look at the ingredients label you notice it is a very small amount added to the shower gel/body wash. These washes are also loaded with synthetic fragrances. They are also high in sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES). These chemicals are not only dangerous and irritating to your skin, but they are also absorbed by the skin and have been linked in some studies to liver toxicity, PMS, menopausal symptoms, and breast cancer. Both SLES and SLS are chemicals that are used in things like engine cleaner. There are even handmade “soap” companies that are sneaking SLS and SLES into their soaps. It’s important to read the ingredients labels.

The environment also benefits because we have less packaging per bar. We are using things that came from the environment, there’s no chemical waste. It is bad for us when using these chemicals and then it becomes bad for the environment when they are being washed down our drains. You also decrease your plastics use a great deal, when you are able to use one bar to wash your entire body.

Sensitive Skin and Soap for the Kids June 7, 2009

We have had many people ask us which soaps are best for kids and/or for people with sensitive skin.

Since all of our Getaways are made with natural ingredients and do not contain harmful detergents, they are perfect for everyone.

While all of our Getaways are gentle and natural, the most soothing of our Getaways are Spring Picnic, Garden Serenity, Hammock Dreams and Afternoon Tea. Hammock Dreams, Garden Serenity and Spring Picnic contain lavender, which is known for skin healing properties, as well as calming aromatherapy qualities.

Afternoon Tea contains Chamomile infused olive oil and Chamomile tea to sooth irritated skin.

We do suggest, however, that everyone try a small area before using it on their entire body to make sure that they are not allergic to the ingredients in the soap. The complete list of ingredients is listed for each getaway on our website.

Enjoy your Getaway with confidence!

Lower your use of plastics May 19, 2009

We’ve had people request recently that we make shampoos and/or shower gels in some of their favorite scents. We, at Soapy Nature, love bar soap and our shampoo bars for many reasons. One of which is they don’t need a container. We all want to live “greener” now and this is a very simple switch to save you money, keep you healthy and protect our planet from so many plastic bottles.

Sure we’re all converts from the “Shower Gel” and we understand the trap that people have fallen into regarding shower gels. They are sold to us as being more convenient and last longer, but that isn’t really the case. You are buying a pretty bottle with a lot of hype behind it. If you try to pronounce the ingredients in your shower gel you will get tongue tied. It’s made of water and detergents and skin irritants. How convenient is that really?

Soapy Nature Getaways’ ingredients are things like Olive Oil, Shea Butter, Jojoba Oil, etc. Your skin will thank you.

Also, if you let your Soapy Nature Getaway dry out between uses, it will last as long as a shower gel and cost much, much less.

Let go of your plastic bottle. If you haven’t tried Soapy Nature Getaways yet, make the switch. You’ll be glad you did. We’ll all be glad you did.

Another way to use less plastic bottles is to use a personal filtered bottle.  Check out Fit&Fresh bottles.  You can carry one all day and fill it up at water fountains or sinks wherever you go and clean it when you get home. One bottle and filter combo lasts for months. Again, it’s convenient, good for you, saves you money, and helps our planet.

Now until Wednesday, we have a 25% off special if you use the coupon code “RAYS” on two or more bars. Go RAYS!

Dangers of Commercial Bath Products May 13, 2009

We found another great site today reminding us of why we love using and making natural soaps. While our soaps smell great and look pretty, we mostly create our soaps to nourish your skin.

We truly desire for every family to be using natural soaps, to help reduce their exposure to harmful chemicals. If you are unaware of some of the chemicals you are using on your skin (the largest organ of your body) please take a look at this article to start gaining some knowledge about commercial products, especially those that claim to be “natural”, yet on their label you can’t pronounce half of the ingredients….such as:
1,4-dioxane, sodium laurel sulfate, quaternium-15, DMDM hydantoin, imidazolidinyl urea and diazolidinyl urea (which have been reported to produce formaldehyde)

If you haven’t made the switch to natural soaps yet, start here to find out why you should. http://www.safecosmetics.org/article.php?list=type&type=33

Afternoon Tea Getaway May 12, 2009

tea

Here is the Afternoon Tea Getaway that will be available later this week on the website! It was developed in order to help people with very sensitive and irritated skin. It contains chamomile infused olive oil and chamomile tea, to soothe the skin. It is scented with palmarosa essential oil, which some people believe stimulates new cell growth, regulates oil production, hydrates and speeds healing. Some people have found these ingredients to assist them in healing eczema, psoriasis and even reduce the appearance of rosacea.

The scent is somewhat of a floral mix of rose and geranium. We hope that you like it!

As Mother’s Day and Teacher Appreciation Week are now behind us, we are looking forward to creating fun Getaways for you to enjoy over the summer- especially for you SAHMs!

We also have a new soap bar that we created with Chamomile infused olive oil, chamomile tea and Palmarosa to make a wonderfully delicate and soothing facial or full-body soap, our AFTERNOON TEA GETAWAY. It will be up on our site later this week.

The site is up and running, with just a few more tweaks to workout, like the Getaway of the Month not being correct. We think that all of our customers will enjoy the new layout.
